Curaçao “Pontoon Bridge”
We’re getting close to the one-year anniversary of Pineapple Drink Night, so I guess I’d better go ahead and blog about the third and final drink of the evening.
Baker writes: “We snupped this during the spring of 1933 when circling the Caribbean for reasons not pertinent to drink-making.” This is actually the least interesting part of his convoluted story, except for the invented word “snupped,” which is quote-worthy if anything is. I plan to snup each and every one of my drinks and engage in all manner of snuppery from here on out.
Here’s the drink that Baker snupped:
- 2 ponies cognac (2 oz Park VSOP)
- 1 pony Curaçao (1/2 oz Cointreau)
- Juice of 1/2 lime (1/2 oz)
- 1 dash orange bitters (Regan’s No. 6)
Fill a large glass with shaved ice. Mix all ingredients, then pour over ice. Garnish with a stick of ripe pineapple and (optionally) a cherry.
With the Curaçao toned down a bit, this turned out to be a perfectly nice, reasonably well-balanced, but somewhat boring drink about which there’s just not much to say. Nothing exceptional, but possibly worth playing with to turn it into something more.
Thus concludes Pineapple Drink Night at long last! And I hope this post truly marks the end of my extended hiatus.
